Translation Productive?

I was trying to translate my rice tonight and found out it was "more productive than other rice"... wtf does that mean? In honor of this and Matt's upcoming trip to Tokyo, I have hence-forth created this blog post of hilarious bad translations.

First Month in Frankfurt

Hello Everyone! The formatting of this post is a little weird because blogger does not translate very well with google translate, and it does not allow me to log in with my stealthy IP converter to log me in from an english speaking location, soooooo I'm sorry for the wonkyness!

It's been one month since I arrived in Frankfurt and I am so happy.  For the first two or three weeks it was a little on the "testing" side, did I do the right thing? Am I crazy? Do Matt and I even LIKE each other!? The answers are Yes, No, and No, we LOVE each other :).  This has been a crazy magical experience and it only strengthens my belief that great reward comes with great risk, courage, heart, and determination.  It was not easy getting all the requirements I needed to get here, including selling my baby car and packing up my life into two suitcases, but now when I wake up and realize I am HERE I am the happiest girl in the world.  I have had my fair share of recovery and relapse since I got here, hence not a lot of touristing going on, a lot of time in bed, but thankfully we have a GREAT view from our 14th floor studio apartment so spending all day looking out the window when I am in too much discomfort to read or watch TV, study German or draw, is half of the beautiful experience of living in a new city in Europe.

The weather here has been interesting, it's pretty humid and when it is hot it is MISERABLE, but there is  a lot of beautiful summer thunder storm and clearing that happens, a lot of beautiful sunsets and the green everywhere is so beautiful.  The hot days only come in twos or threes so there is not long before relief.

Matt has been incredibly supportive in my health and care, begging me to continue on acting as though I am truly on vacation for 6 months, which is so hard for me, since I am what they call the "Acheiver" type, which probably is what has kept me sick for so long in the first place.

I've been going back to drawing on paper since sitting at my computer can be very hard when I'm having neuro-toxic symptoms, and I'm happy to see how much better my line is on paper than on the computer. I thought I would have to give up art all together!!

I updated my website and set up a commission page, so hopefully I can do some commissions here and there to keep up with my work and make a little spending money.  Please let me know if you're interested in drawings for gifts or fun :).

I won't get to see much of the olympics but I am rooting on both my home countries USA and UK for the win. Love the concept of the whole world coming together for these games. So inspiring and heart-lifting.

Love to everyone <3

fashion passion

I've been on a Project Runway marathon streak since I've been extra super sick all week and just keep loving all the fashions and designs. I don't have a lot of experience with clothing in my drawings and I like how simple the drawings always start with a runway form. My mom first taught me to draw a human figure from her experience making and designing clothes for myself and my sisters when we were younger, as her mom lived and worked as a textile seller and seamstress.  This drawing isn't directly from any of the designs, I just kept thinking of the movie Marie Antoinette and the amazing costume fashion they had, it was like a candy movie so yummy.

One Bite at a Time

How do you eat a watermelon?? One bite at a time! Slow and steady, slow and steady.
I'm updating the brochure art for The Optimum Health Clinic , as they have helped me so much in recovering and managing my CFIDS/ME.
I still can't figure out the best way to ink on my tablet, my handline is so much more enjoyable and satisfying. Just more practice I suppose! I finally realized about the pressure brush, and am enjoying the rotate feature for the canvas in CS6.  Need to get me a good sketch book out here and more inking pens. I will draw a lot more if I don't always have to struggle with my tablet!
Tips always welcome.

Animation Process

zomg ... a) I'm so glad we don't have to rely on film negatives anymore, just saving a digital image once saves so much time! b) how quaint that they referred to the men as "artists" and women as "many pretty ladies". Animation Process, Behind the Scenes of Disney 1938

Guten Tag!

Hallo, Guten Tag from Frankfurt! One week here now and boy I have landed on another planet! Not really. I actually felt really at home landing here. I didn't have any trepidation or alien-like feelings. Flying into Frankfurt feels like landing in a Fairy Tale story... and for a major city it is actually quiet enough for me.  The first weekend was really nice, going out and seeing some sights, but unfortunately I was so exhausted by Saturday I was dragging myself to function, having only slept an hour a night since I arrived on Thursday.  I've been sleeping now since Tuesday pretty much non stop after developing an ear infection and today finally am up on my feet really getting organized!  Matt has been a great host, and unfortunately had to miss his travel to Milan this weekend due to his own slew of health issues so we are quite the pair this weekend recovering
and laying low between loads of laundry and cleaning.  It's amazing how fast you can learn a language when you're completely immersed. I really haven't been able to Rosetta Stone at all since I got here and I've learned so much just from grocery shopping, laundry, and dining out.
I miss access to websites available only to USA IP addresses but might find a way to fix that... I miss seeing my friends' status updates during the day (since we are 9 hours ahead), I miss ranch dressing and free still water with your meals, I miss dryer sheets and flat bed sheets. I miss porcelain toilets (all plastic here... every bathroom seems to hold smell a lot more, peeyew).
I say "hello" in the strangest ways I ever thought, my mouth twisting and contorting to meet the way my brain sees a word vs how it sounds, and which way I want to say it.  I'm pretty sure even though Guten Tag and Hallo are easy enough to say,  my brain has decided to stick to "chaiehtago"... and other such nonsense.
The city is very green... landscape wise and environmentally wise.  I got yelled at in German when I asked for a bag (we bought arm loads of hangers and had to carry them 20 minutes away...) even though I was simultaneously buying trash bags... I was like... dude it's ok, here is your 10 cents, really, its ok, we re-use!!
Other than that everyone has been SO nice. The Germans are very friendly and very helpful, though less of them speak English than I actually thought they would.  Makes it very awkward when they say "Nein" and you're like... OK we're not going to get very far are we.... but I'm so grateful that they speak any at all.  German has so many sounds I cannot even make but I'm doing my very best!

When we're not gallavanting around the city I'm here in our studio apartment re-arranging and cleaning until I find my little corner of home here in this new country.  I've been officially registered as a long-term tourist and am trying to let myself relax a little into that knowledge, let myself be a tourist, and in that way I think I'll be more productive with my art and other projects. Hopefully I'll leave here in 6 months knowing a good chunk of a new language too!  Matt and I have also been watching lots of Boston Legal, Matt feels it is his duty in some way to learn a little about American Law for his possible future immigration.  It gives us lots of good stuff to talk about!  I haven't been able to fully catch up on the Bachelorette but I will gosh darn it!!!
Week 1 complete. I still sometimes don't know if it has fully sunk in that I've made this journey, but I'm so proud of myself for doing it and now have a great story for the ages. I moved to Frankfurt for Love and am really embracing this experience for everything it is worth. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
